The one's running he site were probably the last to know and the least to speak up. . Wasn't this part of that recovery that Hackmageddon was about? I think I read about it there or a blog related to it. But damn in the past 10 years I've received letters from, the VA, two colleges, my bank (at the time), and several websites where I hobbied (other than on-line sex site hobbies) ...all apologizing for the leaking of my info with no compensation or means of regaining control. . I know this sounds trite and this is not the answer of admission of defeat, but ... we are all fucked anyway. Maybe in future times they will look back on us as the poor unfortunates that were experimented on by highly sadistic paranoids of Nazi descent. No one is safe from the NSA and all the organizations that it works for. Part of he mandated arrangements that this organization makes with every internet or telecommunications company that operates within the jurisdiction of the U.S. and the 5 eyes (1st world most affluent countries) is that their software MUST have backdoors allowing the NSA, it's operatives ... the sister companies like the CIA, FBI, DEA etc .. not just the agents, but the contractors ... if you get into researching about law enforcement, where they don't have contractors per se, but rather, Volunteers in the form of officers who work without pay !!! (WTF) and citizen volunteers who spy on neighbors, follow suspects around, etc...that all these people - depending upon a highly not-reinforced need to know protocol have the ability to be exposed to your information. . Whatever you might think of snowden he did confirm that as NSA spooks of they came across certain pictures that were hot, or crazy or funny of the sort that others of the same mind set might like -- they absolutely passed them on with less worry of getting in trouble for it - because who would bust them? . Further state and federal authorities have the ability to subpoena and and all information about you (no matter the TOS or Privacy Policy) ... and get this - the company that then provides this information are NOT allowed to tell you ... even if it never results in an investigation, a trial, or goes anywhere near a court. These Subpoenas are handed out like Halloween candy by the FISA judges with a take it at their word this is needed. . The intelligence committees of the senate and congress state repeatedly that they cannot oversee these agencies because they never say anything and often lie outright ... Clapper and his BS about not collecting mass data on every citizen ... they are . Probably the main reason that companies don't say much except - ooops our bad we will follow public outreach protocol and say we will do better. Is because the A. Don't know officially and B. The unofficially know (or at least those that designed the software) that it was the backdoors installed to satisfy the NSA and related intelligence infrastructures. I can't tell you how many countless hours of listening to leading cyber security and programmers stating that all these programs and systems could be secure, if it were not for the NSA and that requirement. . So I'm not sure if the point of this poll was to bring attention to the lack of response from the Friend Finder Network - just keep the above in mind. . It brings to mind the parable of the guard who becomes he guardian. People are sold convenience and in the name of convenience they agree to give away their freedoms. Guarding against the unknown and potentially possible dangers get's tiring, but we can create, hire. elect this set of people to guard our safety, when it doesn't, work the one's in charge of the guards blame each other and when they can't they point at unseen 'actual' terrorists or criminals ... and when there are none .. they might break down and admit that maybe there were bad actors in their own midst, all of which increases the need for their existence ever more. Till finally sitting in our cubicles with our 4square love bot/product customizer which tells us how free we are - the ghost of freedom long dead after being atrophied by the loss of privacy, which we gave away in order to share with our neighbors images of our dicks and alluring cuts in our swim-wear...and for the less sexy you can demonstrate your silly attempts at being cool like 'us' who are really the coming 'We' maybe if your try you can join 'them'. . Was this hack an inside job - I'm convinced that the majority of bots and draws off the site by bots are a side hustle of folks that may partly work at AdultFriendFinder. But the hacks of this sort is about mining for usable financial recores - which is criminal and a potentially real ..But was this information stolen, or lost by a blind eye turned to the other direction? If we are to give that much blind trust to the agencies that guard us then it really was 'leaked' by people who acting as guards. . Consider this alt middle of the road interpretation (the moving one not the stasis-sleep one) ... suppose that these guards had a fraternal and sorer agreement that criticism of their agenda would not be desirable and so how to dis-empower the critics, the journalists, and the lower classes who engage in things like victim-less crimes and engage in sex that disgusts them ... ooops - guess you got something else to worry about for a while rather than not working a protestant work week and not being a total shit who believes their nose deserves to breath real air rather than the ass pf their neighbor. Of course they would have to have code for their unintitated masses that they protect, barter with, and sacrifice ... I think Orwell handled that pretty well in Animal Farm (not thr CIA funded altered cartoon that altered the story). . And what reason would there be to NOT turn to corruption in regard to this? They can't catch criminals and terrorists unless they can think like them and infiltrate them. How can they crack the codes of the most arcane and dark arts unless they know them as well? If they were caught and held accountable for their viewing and missus of private data then that means that other similar instances would be weakened as civil liberties and court cases being brought up would threaten the legit work they do engage in, so the more laws they enforce by catching more bad actors the better and the best way to catch more criminals is more laws, which undercut the civil rights which we tell ourselves we enjoy. When this secret of secrets regarding the body of government of the people, against the people, and watching over the people ... those that outline the prison cell... those that cast doubt that the fences walls and motes in our eyes actually don't protect but make us vulnerable and sheepish. Those are the people to be painted as the worst of the worst. In fact .... no better sacrifice than the one's they make to prove they are right. . tl;dr- paranoid ramblings where the topic is that just because you are paranoid you fit the bill for being watched welcome to the List and here is your copy of the Trial by Kafka to help prepare your defenses and it's constant need for updates that saps all your battery power and maxis out your processors and frys your memory and wouldn't you be much more comfortable in this bed were you can take a bear nape and guess what version 3.3.3 now powers itself off of the natural energy your body emits while dreaming, Now with VR!

Gee, I'm surprised this post hasn't been "lost" by now... Yeah, they don't like the "H"word. They deleted a post of mine a couple years ago when I wrote about the data breach back then. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

i did know that, I wonder if the people that run the site know. Probably clueless. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

They work somewhat like telemarketers - get someone on the line and give the pitch. If someone bites great if not move on to the next. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Yes but I think I've been forced into a new A.F.F identity since then as a previous incarnation got banned (ironically for responding to a scam attempt). But I'm not being complacent, could happen again. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

I also remember going into our preferences, and having to click a box that prevents your data from being found by search public engines online. This I do not recall, I try to remember to check. But securing ID and card data should always be part of the site's security. When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

Yes. They were coming off a major hack the year I joined - 2015. But I was broke at the time so I didn't care if anyone stole my identity. They were welcome to it When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

those data that got sold in the darkweb is still floating around somewhere, come back and haunts us? well...i really don't think so...those people won't normally wait around to jump on the bandwagon...so...i think we are safe that way tho...just sayin...
